Garages are one of the most versatile rooms in a home, so a failproof garage floor is necessary for handling the variety of activities and traffic that this room sees. Whether your garage acts as a workshop or as a storage unit, it is vital that the flooring of choice can handle whatever you throw at it. The garage sees everything from mud to motor oil, vehicle traffic to dog tracks.

Commercial Floor Services has been consulting and installing all manners of flooring in our area for years. We know these considerations make choosing a failproof garage floor an essential task for every homeowner. We’ve been servicing our client’s needs with industry-leading professionalism and are always here to help you with any floor in the house, including your garage.

Here are our top three failproof garage floor ideas for your home!

1: Rollout Flooring

A simple and effective way to protect underlying concrete, rollout flooring has proven to be a simple and durable solution for a failproof garage floor. The easiest to install of the three options on our list, rollout mats do not require the underlying surface to be prepped beyond being clean and free of debris before rolling out the flooring.

Rollout flooring is made of polyvinyl plastic or rubber and is easy to clean with a mop. Another advantage to this type of flooring is it can conceal minor imperfections in the underlying floor. In addition, rollout mats come in a variety of colors and styles.

Although the easiest to install, rollout mats are also more susceptible to damage from falling tools, motorcycle kickstands, and other sharp items. When the mats are damaged, they are more challenging to repair than interlocking tiles.

2: Interlocking Tiles

Similar to rollout mats, interlocking tiles require very little preparation and maintenance. They connect via interlocking edges, and the correct varieties are made to support heavy weights, making them perfect for garage flooring. However, they are more time-consuming to install than rollout mats.

Rubber and plastic tiles are usually 12”x12” or 18”x18” and come in many different colors and designs. This can create exciting design options, such as a black-and-white checkerboard. Most styles also offer more slip resistance when compared to rollout flooring.

One drawback to interlocking tile is that excessive liquid could seep between the joints in the tiles if not wiped up, although a damp mop is an acceptable option for cleaning.

3: Epoxy Coating

Epoxy coating is by far our favorite option for a failproof garage floor. A professional can often complete installation in a single day, and given epoxy’s durability, the time and financial benefit pay big dividends. Epoxy can last up to 20 years with the proper maintenance, and upkeep is as easy as periodic sweeping and mopping.

Epoxy is durable and beautiful and addresses the drawbacks of rollout or interlocking tile options. Because epoxy is painted onto the concrete, there are no spaces where water could seep into the underlying floor. In addition, epoxy can offer homeowners a slip-resistant surface when flake additives are mixed into the epoxy during the installation.

When it comes to design options, nothing compares to epoxy. It can either be subtle or brilliant and comes in nearly any combination of color and styles. A skilled installer can create dramatic patterns like fire and water-styled themes. Because the colors and patterns are a custom creation crafted by the installer, all floors will be unique.
